Whitecode Design Associates’ sector-leading MEPH designs will ensure occupant comfort, health and wellbeing within residential and healthcare facilities situated in the soon-to-be regenerated area of Hertford town centre, Bircherley Green.

In order for the area to continue to be a focal point of its community, Bircherley Green Shopping Centre is undergoing a complete re-energisation to bring the area back to life. The new development – which will be a retail and living quarter – is to replace the outdated shopping mall with a scheme that complements Hertford’s history and its location near to the scenic River Lea. The Bircherley Green regeneration, developed by Chase New Homes, will offer around 70 new homes in Hertford’s town centre, 12 new shops, improved transport links and a healthcare centre named Lea Wharf.

Whitecode will be appointed due to its significant experience on large, mixed-use developments which comprise retail, residential and healthcare facilities. For this regeneration project, Whitecode is working through RIBA stage 2 and will be involved on stage 5 of the planned works. Whitecode will tailor the medical centre, Lea Wharf, to the comfort, health and wellbeing of its occupants, performing a full Cat B fit-out of the space.

In addition to creating the MEPH designs Whitecode will complete SAP and EPC calculations to ascertain the energy and environmental performance of both the residential and healthcare facilities, as part of Part L in the Building Regulations. SBEM calculations will also be completed prior to construction, in order to comply with building regulations and ensure the buildings run as efficiently as possible.

With an anticipated completion date of 2022, the regeneration of Hertford’s town centre marks a new age for the area and will be an attractive place to visit for locals and tourists alike. The presence of Whitecode’s MEPH designs and energy performance assessments will ensure the Lea Wharf healthcare facility and residential dwelling perform well into the future, for the benefit of those who live, visit and work within the impressive Bircherley Green town centre.
